Inertia Loading

In selecting an index table for a particular application, it is important that the unit be carefully matched to the speed and weight capacity required during use. To facilitate this selection, safe allowable loading for PDC units have been calculated through a computer analysis of key mechanical components. PDC load ratings are expressed in units of inertia (lbs.-in.²) and are easily calculated by multiplying total load weight by the square of the load radius. The drawing and formulas below explain the procedure required to find inertia loading for your application.

D = Diameter of Tooling Plate
R = Load Radius
T = Thickness of Tooling Plate

inertia loading

CALCULATIONS:

1. Find weight of tool plate (Wt) = 0.7854D2 x T x wt./cu.in. material.*
2. Find weight of fixtures (Wf) = Unit weight times total number.
3. Find weight of parts (Wp) = Unit weight times total number.
4. Find total load weight (W) = Wt + Wf + Wp
5. Find total inertia load (l) = W x R2

* Weight/cu.in. - Steel 0.284 lb.; Aluminum 0.096lb.
